I’m posting a reminder that the deadline for the Winter Wishes drive is earlier in the season than Southborough’s old Holiday Giving program it replaced.

Southborough Youth & Family Services is asking residents (who can afford to) to give a boost to families in town “experiencing financial anxiety” during a tough time of year.

Last year, SYFS moved up and renamed the annual program to support families as they headed into winter. This year, they are repeating the Winter Wishes program with a focus on collecting $20-50 gift cards by November 30th.

So, if you’re doing some shopping this weekend, you may want to add a gift card to your shopping list:

Winter Wishes Gift Card Drive flyerThe holiday season brings financial anxiety to a lot of families across the country, and the Southborough community is not excluded.

Popular requested stores are Target, Walmart, Amazon, Marshalls/TJ Maxx, and Stop & Shop.

The cards can be dropped of at SYFS’ office in the South Union Building (21 Highland Street) during business hours. If you have any questions, please contact Christina McCarthy at or (508) 481-5676.

Friends of Southborough Youth Commission donation flyerIf you don’t have time to run those errands, you can alternatively donate to the Friends of the Youth Commission.

That program supports SYFS programs including Winter Wishes and their annual camp scholarships.

You can donate online through the donate button on their Facebook page or through Paypal (though the latter deducts a transaction fee). Bonus, Meta is automatically offering a matching donation (up to $100) if you set up a recurring monthly donation through Facebook this week through December 15th. (There are some caveats you can read here, including that matching begins with the 2nd monthly donation.)

If you prefer the old fashioned way, you can still donate by check.

Checks should be made out to Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission and mailed to Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission, Attn: Kathy Cook, 132 Turnpike Rd, Suite 250, Southborough, MA 01772. (If you have any questions about the Friends group, please contact Leslie Hadden at
