Two young children died in a house fire early Monday in Constantine.

Michigan State Police report the fire, in the 14000 block of Timm Road in Constantine Township, was reported at 12:24 a.m. Monday.  Police told WWMT a 4-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl died in the fire. A reported third child also was in the structure and survived.

By the time troopers arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames.  Reports show the structure was more of a shed than a home.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and investigators have worked through the night, along with local fire departments, at the scene.

Several area residents shared their thoughts and prayers for the family Monday.

One Constantine resident said it’s always a tragedy to lose a child.

“I feel for the parents,” he said. “I don’t know them. It’s not something I’ve had to deal with, but I feel for them.”

Many also reached out to the family through social media. Some comments from the Journal’s Facebook post:  “This mama’s heart breaks for those affected. I can’t even imagine. Praying for all.”  “So very devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.”  “How absolutely devastating. There are no words.”
